My first time – with Maya 2008! (LOL)

Now I’m finally on my animation course and finally have my hands on Maya, I’ve been able to play about with it. So far I’m still learning and some of it’s really confusing… so many buttons and tabs and god knows what…. Today we learnt how to bend/curve things, and make funky shaped pillars.

This was my first try, very-very basic...

This was the slightly different temple, better lighting, but the shadows have gone weird... I got it right earlier on... but then it went like that....

The is the slightly more fun temple, still with the strange planet, but now with funky pillars and a weird shaped roof! And a mountain backdrop which I made by pulling about a bit of Nurb plane.

First time I added the shading on this, it looked fine, then I did something, and it went like this... I have no explanation... as I said, newbie to Maya...

Anyone familiar with the Maya programs? Any helpful tips for beginners like moi?

Any I warn you now… I will be posting more, apparantly my course leader-y types like blogging lol. So I thought, eh why not put some here too. Next week we get to make rockets!!! :woot:

    I remember my first time with Maya like it was yesterday. I started in Spring for a class I did in my media arts and design stream. You can see my stuff on cleartranquil.com – That’s my main portfolio. I like what you’ve started here for sure, the last render is strong but I think some shots from the inside lookin’ out would be really neat too.

    That’s really cool, I fail 3D works, I’d definitely be in need of a course to figure out any of this stuff. I tried to mess with 3D Max and failed epically. I wish I could do stuff like that though,looks fun.

    Nice work! Now its time to build a temple for the awesome blowfish^^
    i doubt i could do somrthing like that.Photoshop is giving me a hard time already

    @Blowfish: I could actually make something like that using CAD programs. Of course, that’d be cheating since those are specifically made for technical blueprints/designs ^^;

    haha yea I wish I could do this stuff too… Guess it’s never too late to learn? I’m not much of a self learner though…I tend to absorb better when somebody’s layin it out for me haha.
