Now this isn’t some bitter old spinsters view on it, but Valentines day… really? Where the prices of literally EVERYTHING sky rocket! I’d like to refer to the ‘Love Day’ simpsons episode to back this up lol. If your in a couple, there shouldn’t need to be a day to make your love known, it should just be obvious anyways. And for those not in relationships who want to be in relationships, its just like rubbing it in their faces. It’s mean.
To sum it up, couples shouldn’t need valentines as excuse to shower your loved one with gifts! It should be done at every opportunity!!! lol (Don’t overdo it obviously lol, you’ll get broke really fast if you do, and you’ll get sued by your signifigant other for lying about how much money you’ve got like in an ep of Ally McBeal lol)

Complete and utter agreement! I spend enough time and money buying gifts for women in exchange for the chance of sex; I do not need a specific day of the year to emphasize my oft fruitless pursuits!

I think that everybody agrees on the fact that Valentines day is milking the cashcow yet so many people do celebrate it…

@M-chan: Ahh, nothing wrong with celebrating (or not celebrating) V-Day, lol. No different than spending cash for Christmas, right? But it’s a more *public* display rather than a private one. Like wearing a wedding ring in *public* rather than hiding it. To showcase one’s relationship to the world, no matter how cheesy or corny, lol. Bahh, speaking of wedding rings… [Points to my blog, lol]

Valentine’s day is just like Christmas; people shower their loved ones with gifts that can be done every other day. The difference? “I just want a special day to remember something special that we share”.
My opinion would be that you choose any other day for remembrance. Be different that the normal, average person would do. I just remembered after playing MGS4 last weekend: the sub-main character Raideen met his future fiancee/wife on the day that George Washington took the oath of office to become the first US president.
All these celebrations (the minor ones, I mean) is just an opportunity for the shopkeepers to milk other people’s cash! ^^;
