Autumn season US TV 2014 – Gotham & Scorpion – Better than expected

Decided to try out Gotham because, why not? New season TV is always worth checking out. And cos comic book.

Design wise, Gotham reminds me of the 90’s Batman cartoon. The layout of the police HQ would be insane in real life, but it looks really cool. They seem to be using the same filters as CSI New York. Which makes sense as Gotham basically looks like New York but with some gothic looking buildings added to the landscape.

The overall feel/mise-en-scene of the show is something similar to Sin City. Scuzzy, grey, suspect and questionable characters populate the city. With the one shining beacon of hope that is Jim Gordon. Who wants to solve the murder of the Waynes. And since the police system is corrupt and owned by gangsters and whatnot, he has to do that on the down-low.

Below is a shot of the Scorpion team with Robert Patrick.

Scorpion seems to be about super intelligent oddballs who help the government with hard to solve problems. Based loosely on the life of Walter O’Brien. The first episode surprised me. It was definitely high octane as the trailer I saw said it’d be. Which considering the plot, surprised me.

I’ve not seen much of Numbers, but I’d imagine that this is in a similar vein of high IQ genius’s solving problems. Only this is a team of them, one which does engineering, one human calculator, one world class shrink and then a world class coder/hacker.

I think my favourite thing so far is that Eddie Kaye Thomas is in it. He’s awesome. Currently on episode 2. I’m not sure it’ll go beyond one season. But I prefer this to Blacklist… saw 3-4 eps of that and just never got it.

EDIT: Turns out this is produced by Orci and Kurtzman… and Justin Lin of Fast & Furious fame is also involved… with the car stuff in the first episode… I’m not very shocked by that lol

And all moved into Birmingham now🙂 Rooms switched and everything. Hence the dark-spot.
