Why don’t art teachers really acknowledge anime/manga style artwork?

April 17, 2010

Yeeaaah cos this isn't technically accomplished at all is it?! -_- And sooo easy to get it looking this pretty....riiiight? ¬_¬

During my time in the education system(so far) I have only met one art teacher who doesn’t completely disregard anime and manga style artwork. The rest have either not considered it real art, thought of it as ‘too easy’ or said its been “done to death”. (Please not, this is veeeeery old now, posted it over a year ago and I was on a rant lol)

Do you know how disheartening this is? How spirit-sucking it is? To be actively dissuaded from doing the things you love? Not because I need to expand my horizons, but because the teachers just don’t seem to like it, or don’t seem to acknowledge it(or understand it, it seems…)? It’s just… it ruins the fun. Most other teachers in school who have ever seen me drawing or doodling in class have at least been impressed by it and commented on it, but never the actual art teachers. English, Science, even maths, but not the art teachers. They just want us to do poncy watercolours and oil paintings it seems. Modern art which alot of the time doesn’t even have any real form. I know art is in the eye of the beholder and all that jazz, but really… some of the modern art I’ve seen in galleries is complete shit. Or at least completely devoid of any real prettiness. Sold chunks of colour with a single stripe across it… what the hell is that really? Drawing manga style artwork is NOT easy. If it was every tom-dick and harry could do it. You think all the manga-ka just started out as brilliant as they are now? To be as good when they started drawing as to when they finally got published after all the years or slogging away? The teachers here in the UK just don’t know enough…

I think the main problem is they haven’t seen enough. They think its all the same, whereas a fan will know its most definately not all the same. Most people have only been exposed to the mainstream stuff, Pokemon, Dragonball, Digimon, Sailor Moon, if your lucky, some not even that, mostly like Pokemon usually, and they refer to them as ‘those big eyed Japanese cartoons’ which, in alot of cases, is fairly accurate I’ll admit, BUT its not all that dammit!!!

Its just disheartening is all… they should encourage your passions right? Not discourage them…

Below the cut for some more prettiness 🙂

New dorama – Mei-chan no Shitsuji & Bambino!

March 7, 2010

(The Bambino! opening theme, totally addicted to it…. can now sing it off by heart lol.)

As we finished Rookies yesterday, and finished Bloody Monday(*SOB*) today, we had to pick new J-drama’s to take their place lol. We ended up going with one boy-filled-fangirl-fest, and one, more serious, but not completely, cooking series.

1/200 HCM Pro Zaku Warrior

August 30, 2009

My little loot from my trip to Norwich on saturday. And technically I only bought Zaku, cos ‘Cat Paradise’ was in a 3 for 2 offer in Waterstones, and my brother was buying Haruhi manga(I did warn him it ain’t the same though…) I thought £6.95 was a bit much, but the Japanese packaging was too much to pass up, I woulda bought any of the Mobile Suits, was very much an impulse buy. But I recently found out I am, what you’d call, a Zeonist, a fan of the 1-eyed Mobile Suits, Gelgoog, Zaku, Dom’s(whatever Dom’s are… will have to search that lol). 1500 yen on HLJ. Still in stock atm lol, released in 2005 originally.

loot

An itty-bitty gundam! So very tiny at just 9cm in height! About the same height as a Nendoroid, tiny bit shorter me thinks. More past the cut!

London Expo – 3 DAYS!!!!

October 22, 2008

This saturday the autumn London Expo starts!! A weekend sure to be filled of geekism and otakument!! I’ve been…:counts:… 3 4 times? I think its 4… once when I was 13…. then 15…. then twice in the last year. (Since I got my job.) (For those who don’t know, its a bit scifi convention.)

For the first time I’m going on both days, staying in London!! :woop: Usually I only got sunday, because it’s less busy. I probably miss out on alot though…. I will find out what saturdays are like. Meant to be way busy….not fun, but more merchendise = FUN!!! Anyways, anime society meet now. Then I’m going to see Mirrors….:shudder:

Nabari no Ou – Spring Season Anime I’m finally looking at…

August 12, 2008

When the spring season came around, I downloaded 4 or 5 episodes to try and pick a series to follow. But for some reason I never got round to watching any of them…. It may have been because I was concentrating on finishing Higurashi off….or schoolwork…. I honestly can’t remember….. A little way into the spring season I picked up Kurenai, which turned out to be very good. Anyways, Nabari no Ou was one of the 4/5 I planned to look at. Usually the word ‘ninja’ will put me off a series straight away, but I liked the character designs of NNO, I think I chose series based completely on the appearence in April…. not normally what I’de do. Usually I research into it, or a friend recommends it.

Nabari no Ou is mighty pretty, I’ll give it that. Tis very good animation in my oppinion. And quite funny in places. Bits like this I find particularly funny.

I love how he pretends to be girly to shock people. I lol’d.

And the voice actor for that character, Rokujo, is a girl like I thought, and is the voice of Shana from Shakugan no Shana!! And the voice of Sayo in Super Gals!! Datchu!! (Love Super Gals!!)

Anyways, was just looking through my archives and seeing what I hadn’t watched before, (picked something to watch while I was drying my hair lol) and its turned out to be pretty good. Might look into the rest sometime soon.
