Romeo X Juliet Episode 1 & other musings

February 12, 2010

After getting the SFX magazine today, and it having a disc of 3 eps of anime on(sadly dubbed only, not even any subs for the op/ed themes…), gave me a chance to finally watch (the 1st ep at least, of the) Romeo&Juliet anime. When they say ‘based on’ its taken *very* loosely lol. Pegasus’s, fine. But masked crossdressing town heroes like Marian in the BBC Robin Hood? lol. And the Japanese version of ‘You Raise Me Up’ made me lol too.  Animations all nice though. Gonzo standard(?) This is being written while I watch lol, as dubbed makes it easier to multitask haha.

Eeep at the creepy blonde Shakespeare though…

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel – Review/Ecstatic ramble

April 29, 2009

Loved it. I did. My expectations weren’t particularly high… But I loved it. Sooooo much. I mean… it hit so many g-spots(Geek-spots!!! LOL)!! Timelords… Firefly/Serenity, Star Trek and Star Wars…and more. So getting it when its out on DVD. The last brit-comedy I saw was a BIG disappointment.(Lesbian Vampire Killers… was a brilliant idea, but ruined by those irritating, supposed funny men Horne and Corden… It was gonna have Conner(Andrew Lee Potts) from Primeval in it… that would have been brilliant… cos he’s lovely. Horne and Corden are slimey…) I’d forgotten how good time travel movies are. Spotting all the crossover points, its just awesome! Chris O’Dowd ROCKED as always. And Shakespeare(from one ep of Dr Who), Dean Lennox Kelly,(more famous for Shameless). The other guy, the inventer of the Ninja Yodeller, I hadn’t really heard of. (Huh…apparantly he was Shirley Ghostman in that Shirley Ghostman show… can’t saw I watched lol.) Not only them, but Anna Faris was in it. Queen of the Scary Movie movies.

Kinda reminded me of a scifi(sorry… Science Fiction lol) version of say… Coupling? Yeah… Coupling… seems about right… (Holy smidt… didn’t realise the director had directed 42 episode of 2 Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps… that might be why it felt familiar…)And the remake of ‘Final Countdown’, well that was just pure win. I kinda hope they’ll be a sequal… but it’s probably better left as just one movie. As they said in the movie, hardly any sequals work. Apart from say…Terminator 2, Toy Story 2… (hopefully Iron Man 2 lol) I could probably list more if I thought about it lol. EDIT: As Louki pointed out… Alien 2 or Aliens! Much more fun than the first one.

So, I say, get out and see FAQ About Time Travel NOW before it leaves cinema’s. The last showing at my local is tomorrow. Which sucks… because its only been only for like a week or so… since the 24th. Not even a week… god… its probably cos of all the new movies… Hannah Freakin’ Montana… Wolverine I won’t argue with cos of LIEEEEV’s presence. (Holy crap he’s only 41…. I thought he was older…. older than Jeffrey Dean Morgan at least… but he’s younger!! YUM!) Anyways… yus… rambled a bit… Well it deserved a longer run… I’m sure its running longer in other cinema’s, and it’ll be in the arty one across the road from me soon I bet…. might see it again to see what I missed the first time around lol.

(PS, the guy who wrote the screenplay, has a blog, here. Checks it out! Am a tad annoyed you can’t comment on it without be a team member… so I’ll post the comment I wanted to post there, here.

I….love-love-LOVED FAQ About Time Travel!! It reignited my belief in British Comedy movies. Lesbian Vampire Killers was…well…disappointing… I wished they kept Andrew Lee Potts in it instead of Horne n Corden… nvm. This was a million times better by far!!
Posted a little rant about it in fact lol… found your blog while I was looking round for links and such.
Once again, loved it!! Hope to see more from ya’s!

EDIT: As for a US cinema release, I thought it was getting one, don’t know when, gomen, and DVD release, well I shall be waiting for that too lol.

Loves Labours Lost – First show at the Courtyard Theatre!!

October 3, 2008

I feel so privaliged that I got to see the first showing of Loves Labours Lost!! (Which I will refer to as LLL from here on in.)

For those who don’t know, Loves Labours Lost is a play by Shakespeare. A comedy, as far as Shakespeare’s comedies go anyway lol. But it was suprisingly funny. And being at the front was so awesome…. like being in the action, actors whip past you, I swear I got brushed by one of the hugely ornate dresses that one of the 4 main women were wearing. It was so cool… if you were in the audience, I was in the front row, right on the end on the left, seat A 36, you really are so close, so much closer than I thought I’d be….

The story is basically this, 4 guys swear off women to study for 3 years, and then 4 women, a princess and her ladies come from France, each guy falls for one of the girls(lucky they didnt fall for the same one really…) and they all plot to get round the deal they made to steer clear of women. There are plenty of laughs, audience participation, a weirdass Spanish pirate type character named Armado, who had a mini version of him following him round. Which was so funny, he was the comic relief definately, although the rest was funny too lol, Tennant was brilliant as always, and the outfits were fantastic, hats off to the costume designer Katrina Lindsay, they were so ornate and gorgeous… I wanna go again just so I can watch the sparkles more, I was mesmorised at quite a few points, distracted from watching Tennant, thats an acomplishment on its own. And Tom Davey was yummy too!! Great legs, all the 4 main guys had great legs, shame the blonde one(Sam Alexander) was shorter than the other 3… All four of the guys, Tennant, Davey, Alexander and Edward Bennett were in Hamlet, so it was great to see them again, in uber-funky outfits, and tights…oh the legs….and the puffy pants lol. Such a good night…. I wish you were allowed to take pictures of the acting…. but I wouldn’t post them yet anyway. I have a few photos of the set which I took during the intervel, but I don’t want to ruin anything, not until someone else posts photos up first, I don’t want to be responsible for spoiling the suprises.

I’m ashamed to say I did go to the stage door after the show…. but I was nowhere near the most obsessed person there, one lady(much older than me)brought roses… she was sitting on the shame row as me, and tried to give them to him when he came out at the stage door, but she failed. :is strangely smug….: Poor guy was only wearing a tshirt and jeans when he came out to sign stuff… And because I wasn’t obsessed enough, and because I was sitting at the front(took longer to get out) I didnt get close enough to the front, so i didnt get a signiture. Not the end of the world, and being at the front, so close to all the actors, is more than enough compensation. And, not only that, I got the signiture of the actor who played Bostard, Ricky Champ, who was awesome, mucho funny! Him being dragged along by a rope by the mini Armado was a great laugh.

And to end, two of the photos I took outside the stage door, I should have concentrated on the photos instead of trying for an autograph, since I was too far for an autograph really… But I got one semi-decent photo of Tennant, and one of Champ, Ricky Champ has a great name lol. Champ!! Anyways, photos…

Anyway, thats enough for my rant of LLL. It was awesome, WAY more fun than Hamlet was, but I don’t suppose Hamlet was meant to be fun lol. Either way, I really enjoyed it, and wish I could go again. Even considering buying tickets on ebay…. because it really is awesome.

Back from Stratford

October 3, 2008

Did I mention I was going to see Loves Labours Lost in Stratford upon avon? I can’t remember… either way… the more Tennant the merrier.

It was soooo good! Way more fun than Hamlet, not just because I was right at the front(almost getting hit by the big froofy dresses! lol)

Anyways, more updates later!!! And I finally got to try ********!!! So stoked!!!

Back from Hamlet – was flippin’ fantastic!!

August 9, 2008

And I’m not just saying that because the great David Tennant and Patrick Stuart were in it. Excluding Tennant my favourite character had to be Horaitio. He was cool, and one of few not to go crazy lol. It was a very crazy play lol. But its Shakespeare. It happens. I couldn’t help but notice how bouncy and spry Tennant was though, jumping/running all over the place! No shoes or socks cause he would have fallen over if he did wear them.(Slippy floor) The set design was fantastic. Mirrored floor with 5 giant mirrors that spin round at the back, which acted like doors when they had to. It was so AWESOME!! I didnt even mind not sitting as close as I would have liked, cause it turned out to be more compact than I expected. Another awesome thing, the actors run around behind the stage getting changed for different roles/scenes!!! A shiver actually went up my spine everytime I knew he ran so close behind me. (I was second row from the back.)

Even in a beanie....

Even in a beanie....

I was a bit disappointed he wasn’t doing it in his real(scottish)accent, but maybe he’ll use it for Love’s Labours Lost if I’m lucky. (I have front row seats for that!! :faints: And thats another thing, I wasn’t nearly as fangirly as I thought I’d be. I didn’t go all giggly and stupid when he came on. It didnt feel real though… Dunno why…. still hasn’t really sunk in that I’ve seen him live….weird…. But it was brilliant!! Ofelia was my least favourite character, the actress herself was great, but I didnt like Ofelia’s character, too much like Perdita for my liking, all waif-like and handing out flowers…. bugged me… and I hated the Winters Tale too… Much Ado About Nothing is probably the most enjoyable school ever put us through. We never did Hamlet in school though, so the ending was a complete suprise!! I kinda saw it coming anyway… tis Shakespeare after all.

Now I have to study up on Love’s Labours Lost, cos the wiki synopsis made it sound alright. Shocked me lol. Alot of the cast who are in Hamlet are in Love’s Labours Lost, which will be nice. I liked the cast. Tom Davey rocked.

David Tennant in Hamlet – 10 DAYS!!!!

July 29, 2008

This isn’t normally what I’d post about. But its Tennant. And respect must be paid.

In 10 days, next friday, I will be going to see David Tennant and Patrick Stuart in Hamlet in Stratford upon Avon, in the Courtyard theatre. I am trying to remain calm and collected and very rational about it, but as the date draws ever closer, I will collapse into a pile of mushy girlyness. I can’t help it. Tennant is awesome. And Scottish. And TALL! The MOST important factor!!! And I will be seeing him LIVE!!! IN THE FLESH!!! (I’ll be seeing him again in Loves Labours Lost, same place, later date, can’t remember when. FRONT ROW FOR THAT!!!)

I feel kinda sorry for all the people going to see Shakespear for Shakespeares sake. Cause there are gonna be so many fangirls(for Tennant) and Trekkies (for Stuart). They’ve already banned any dressing up and your allowed to get anything signed thats not Shakespeare related, or just blank stuff is ok, signiture book or whatever. I wouldn’t care what I got signed. If it was signed by him thats all that matters!!!

Ok, thats my fangirly rant over and done with, there may be another the day or two before I go….but for now, heres a wallpaper featuring, what I believe, is an outfit that will be worn in Hamlet!! (I used to have a massive version of this pic, full body, but I can’t find it…. I’ll keep looking, but this’ll have to do for the moment.)
